Take a pause with me.

Kathy Tanguay from Connecticut, started her artistic career in 1982, when her class went to see E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial on a field trip. Inspired, she went home and started drawing E.T. at the kitchen table. Kathy has been drawing ever since!

She went on to earn a Bachelor’s of Science from Sacred Heart University with a major in Illustration and a minor in Psychology. Amongst various positions as a life coach and Artist, she was offered a Photo Retouching position in Manhattan with an advertising agency manipulating images with Photoshop. Before starting a new job, she would often be involved in researching her subject matter, which sometimes included some kind of field trip or experiment. Once when trying to create the illusion of water in motion, she took a galloon bag, poked holes all over it, filled it with water over the sink and studied what the water looked like flowing through the holes for over a half an hour. The client waited patiently and quietly off to the side wondering about her unorthodox way of working, but it was that research that allowed her to create the illusion of water that the client loved.

It is very exciting to to be an artist, especially in Manhattan, and no doubt seeing jobs she had worked on buses, billboards and subways was a thrill, but over time Kathy realized how much she wanted to make a difference in the classroom and some day have a family of her own. She moved back to Connecticut, earned her teaching certificate from Central Connecticut State University and later a Master’s in Liberal Studies, with a focus in the Arts from Wesleyan University.

Kathy works as an Art Teacher at a local High School, where she enjoys paying it forward by teaching and inspiring the next generation of artists. She lives with her husband, their three cherubs and their whippet named Jackson.
